About Me

So you want to know more about me! Fantastic.

I am set to graduate with my Associates degree from Guilford Technical Community College with a major in Simulation and Game Development. I have a passion for helping others bring their creative stories to life, and have always enjoyed the documentation and producing side of projects more than anything. In my free time I enjoy making my own games (the creative drive truly never stops) and aspire to one day open my own game developer studio!

As a child I grew up playing a variety of games, but quickly found that I adored horror video games the most. From well known classics like Resident Evil to the traditional point-and-click style like Harvester (which might be kind of niche now, but it was one that I found enjoying in middle school), I was driven to play anything I could get my hands on. It is my current dream to work on a AAA motion-capture video game. In fact, it’s because of God of War that I even fell into the industry at all!

It was in high school that I found I adored the production side of projects. In my freshman year, we had to make fake businesses for my Civics and Economics class, and I got so into it that I drafted up fake legal documents and created a binder to present them in class while my group members focused on the designing portion of the business. Then in my junior year, I directed a student production of Treasure Island for my theatre major project, worked on the makeup for Shrek the Musical, and went on in my senior year to become the Head of Costuming and Makeup for my school and designing for an entire production of Seussical with only one team member to help!

I’ve always found that creating documents and leading a large group of people to create something as a giant puzzle, and I for one love puzzles. It was always rewarding to meet our deadlines and have people go on to enjoy what we all created together, and I realized that that’s what I want to do in life.

What Motivates Me?

A couple of things, really. As I mentioned above, I find production to be like a giant puzzle. There’s an end goal that everyone agrees upon, and depending on the kind of puzzle we’re comparing to, there can be multiple ways to solve it as well. Finding the perfect way for each piece to work together (much like how it is getting a group of people to work efficiently together on a project) is a task that ended up driving me more than anything else.

Metaphor aside, it’s always been important to me to communicate with the people I work with so we are all happy with the end result. Whether that was me making sure my actors were having no trouble with the stage blocking, or making sure they were comfortable in the costumes I made, I value the opinions of everyone involved in a project and want to make sure everyone is heard. Often, a member of the team will have good input to better improve the project. I found that by listening to your people, everyone felt motivated to put their all into their part of the project, and we ended up with better results than we could ever ask for!

It is my own opinion that if you don’t listen and work with your team members, there is no foundation to build on, and whatever it is you’re trying to make will fall to ruins. Preparing that foundation and maintaining it, and having everyone be inspired to put their best foot forward, is easily what motivates me to do what I do.
